Censorship

April 26, 2007

In school we are learning about censorship. So we got some questions that we have to answer about it.

What is censorship?

Censorship is when someone is blocking, removing or holding information from the public.

Why are things censored?

Things are censored because there could be bad words; scenes that they don’t want children to do do or see, things that can make people really offended and more.

Cencored Songs

Censored News Story

Censored Movies

(You will have to scroll down the page to get the lists of censored/banned movies from a different place.)

Do you think there are “good” reasons to censor some material?

Yes I do think there are “good” reasons to censor some things because there could be things in there that people or their kids don’t want to see, there could be violence, there could be guns/knives all that stuff involved and many more reasons.

Do you think Mr.Fisher was right in censoring the terrorism video?

I think it was right in a way then yet again not in a way. I think you should have because some people can get really offended by it and I don’t think so because some people may think its true and it shows what people are thinking about the terrorism.

ITL review

April 23, 2007

In class Mr.Fisher gave us some questions to answer for our review on our ITL project.

Project- Teen Smoking

  1. What have you learned about your topic?

I learned lots from making this video. I learned that smoking kills the most people in the world. It kills more then AIDS, HIV, fires, car crashes, and many more. I also learned that people get very frustrated when they smoke and think they aren’t going to make it to collage and it makes them do bad things like they like to hide lots of things from their parents, steel smokes, get friends to buy them for them then they would get their friends in trouble to. Teens who smoke usually get very mad and get in fights with parents, isolate from friends and many more things.

  1. What have you learned about collaborating locally and internationally?

I learned that it is a lot harder to work internationally because if your making a video for example like we were doing, they can’t see how were making it and they don’t get to see what we are doing. It’s also the other way around. They could be the ones making the video and we wouldn’t be able to help other then the things we were assigned for. I also learned that working locally is a lot easier because we both get to decide on how were making it and if we need something we can go on separate computers and look for the things we need. Like when we were making the video, if we needed more then one thing, we would go on separate computers and we would each look for a different thing. But we didn’t do that. But I learned that it is lot more easier to work locally then internationally but it is a good experience to work internationally and meet new people and learn new and more things.

3. What would have made this project easier/better/more interesting?

Something that would have made this project easier would be if we could go on microphone or web cam or something like that so the other people would be able to make decisions too. They would also be able to help with the video and tell us what they don’t like or what needs to be changes. If we had more help like if they could see what we were doing and all, I think that would have made it better because it wouldn’t only be us that’s making the video like putting it all in order and what’s going in it.

  1. What have you learned about telling a story combining pictures/music/video/voice/text?

I learned that it is hard combining pictures, music, video, voice and text because you have to figure out where it all goes, you have to make sure that you can hear the voice over the music, same with the videos, and you have to learn so much more just to be able to run the video program. You also need to make sure the text is readable over the background. If it’s a poem, facts or something like that and you want it to slide in or up, you have to make the text readable, slow so people can read it and a colour that you can see over the background.

Homogeneous, Heterogeneous, Solutions, Mechanical Mixtures, Saturated and Unsaturated!

April 11, 2007

In school we are learning about heterogeneous mixtures, homogeneous mixtures, solutions and mechanical mixtures. Our assignment is to write what they are, give examples and get pictures of them.

Homogeneous mixtures are also a solution. Homogeneous is when you look at something and you can’t tell the difference between the components.

Some examples are: Salt, Sugar, Flour, Coco, Milk, jell-o mix, drink mixtures and many more.

Heterogeneous mixtures are also a mechanical mixture. Heterogeneous is when you look at something and you can see the difference between the components.

Some examples are: Coffee, Seasoning Salt, Pepper, Sand, Bird Seeds, Trail Mix and many more.

Saturated is something that can be dissolved and is a dry powder.

Examples: Grape Juice Powder, Jell-o mix, Cake Mix, and many more.

Unsaturated is the powder dissolving in the liquid.

Examples: Grape Juice in Water, Jell-o Mix in Water, Cake Mix in Water, Coffee in hot Water, and many other things.

ITL Video…

April 8, 2007

In school, For the international teen life project, we have to make a video. I am working with Toni and we are doing Teen Smoking and we have a list that we have to tell about our project.

Software

The software we used in the video was Pinnacle and audacity. Pinnacle is a video making software and audacity is a voice recording software. We are using Pinnacle to make the video and add in all the voice recording and music. Audacity is where we recorded the voices.

Process

The Process was a little bit hard. We first had to look for music. Then we had to find pictures and get videos. Then we needed to put the on pinnacle and sort them out. Then we had add text to the pictured. Then we needed to record and add them to the video and add music to it.

Editing and production

For editing, we took out what we didn’t want, we changed fonts to readable and we changed the video around so people can understand it more. For the pictures, we didn’t use font colours that you wouldn’t be able to see or read, we made them so you can see them and read them. We took out things that didn’t match the criteria of Teen Smoking, we kept things that were in that criteria and we did the best we could make it as we said we wanted it. We wouldn’t put things on there that have to do with a whole different topic. We stuck to ours.

Literacy

There is a lot more to literature then you thought. You have to be able to read pictures to see what the picture is trying to tell you, read text, know what sites are true and what aren’t. Editing a video/making one is a part of literature too! You have to see what the pictures are about, if they match the criteria, put text on and a lot more. When you edit something they have to be able to read it. Like when you write something, it has to make sense.

Well that’s all for now.

 Bye

Questions and answers!

April 5, 2007

Hey!

I haven’t wrote in so long… well now you get a educational post to read.

In class we been helping grade 5’s blog and they want us to help them. They asked us questions about blogging and they want us to answer them. We have to pick 4 questions out of 25 and we have to answer them for them.

The first question I picked to answer was…

1.What are some tips on how to proofread on a blog?

-Copy and paste it into word. It will show you the things that need to be corrected.

-Read it over again.

-Make some changes/add more things.

-Try and think of things that will make it more interesting.

-Try and organize it in different groups.

-Make paragraphs.

-Use punctuation properly.

-Take some things away that don’t make sense.

-Make spaces so people can actually read the words.

-TRY YOUR BEST!

When I write a post I usually write it in Word first before I put it in my learnerblogs so it shows all the mistakes and so I can fix it. Then I re-read it and take things out and add more things in if it don’t make sense. All you have to do is make sure you read it carefully and read it over maybe 2 times.

2. What is your favourite or the most interesting thing you like about blogging?

Well my favourtie thing about blogging is writing. I like writing but I’m not really good at making up stories or anything like that. But on here you can just say what ever you want like you can write stories(if you want), tell about school, what you did on holidays and much more. But when you are doing something else you kind of drift away from posting all the time. I also like how you can comment on other people’s blogs and say what you want. It’s your opinion.

3. What makes you want to comment to a blog?

Things that make me want to comment are good things and things that you will be able to write about. And it also depends on if you feel like typing or not. If you don’t want to type, go back another day and write a comment. Also if you know something about what they wrote, say it. Other people can learn things off of you too. Even though your younger, doesn’t mean that people that are in older grades or out of school, doesn’t mean that they know the same things as you. No one knows everything!

And the last question…

4. What have you learned in blogging?

I have learned lots in blogging. Blogging is a good experience for people our age because we get to learn more from other blogs. Also from the comments people leave. There are many different things to know about blogging, but you don’t have to know all. You ust need to know the basics. You will learn more and more as you blog more and more.

Try your best, and learn more! :)

Ashley.

International Teen Life Project And Questions

March 5, 2007

Today our class was looking back on all the things we been leaving out for a while like our blogs and bloglines. But we got a list with two questions that we have to answer on here since we haven’t been writing on here for a while and we been doing our international teen life projects. But thats what the questions are about. So here are the questions and answers;

  • What are the challenges of working internationally?

Some of the challenges for working internationally on a teen life project is that we don’t get to work with the other people from like Columbia. We work with them but like we don’t get to meet them in person kind of thing and when we do something like videos we have to pick someone from our own class so we can work on it together and its kind of hard if we go in a group with someone from across the world.

  • What are the advantages of working in a collaborative international group?

The advantages of working in a collaborative international group is that we get to meet new people from places we never been to or never heard of and we get to learn different things that people know about or things like their languages. They also might know stuff we don’t know and what they don’t know that we know.

On our international teen life wiki that all of us are working on has lots of information on 21 different things. If you want to see some of the things that we have learned and put on the wiki, go here. Go down and it will show you all the pages and all you have to do is click on one and that page will come up.

My International Teen Life Project!!

February 19, 2007

For my project I am going to be doing teen smoking. Teen smoking is bad because it makes their lungs weak and it doesn’t matter what they smoke. There are many different things like cigars, cigarettes, weed or any drug like that. Those are all bad and they shouldn’t let teen smoke. No matter how they have to stop it. I don’t like any of those things. They are bad and they kill teens. Even people who aren’t teens smoke like kids under 13. That is bad and wrong. Teens who smoke make really bad choices because in life, it will be hard for them to breath and smoking also takes away their life. They just do it to try and fit in with others. Well guess what. That shouldn’t happen.

If you’re a teen who smokes, STOP!! It is not good for you and you shouldn’t have even started. Imagine what it can do to you. And if you can’t stop, get help from someone or do something about it because that is bad!!!

And people who haven’t started, DON’T!! You made the right choice already and keep it like that.

About Mee!

January 22, 2007

Hey!My name is Ashley.M I live in
Snow Lake, Canada, I am almost 14 in like a week, I really like sports like volleyball, badminton and soccer. I think I have been going to this school for almost 11 years. My teacher is Mr.Fisher and I am in grade 8. We kind of have a big class but that’s also because we had split classes. But our grade 8 class is like 10 or 11 people. Then we have some of the grade 7’s in our class too. We had a really big nice school but we don’t’ even use 5-10 rooms through the whole thing. Lots of people have moved and it’s been the 2nd year that we had split classes. Out of our whole town this is like the 2nd biggest building here. Other then the mine that shut down. That is why everyone moved and there are not much people here anymore. We have total of about 800 people in our town and about 150 in the school. There really is not much to do here anymore because lots of things shut down but it is nice here. Sometimes when we go sit on the lake with a skidoo or a boat and watch the sun set, it is beautiful. I love it. Just it gets very boring sometimes.
I think the biggest concerns about youth, is school drop out and drugs because so many kids drop out and they don’t get educated and start doing bad things like the drugs then they run away because they fight with their parents then wherever they go, they will get in fights with other people and soon they will die. I don’t like drugs, they are bad for everyone but even worse kids because kids have a whole life ahead of them and its makes them do really crazy things.

Christmas Break and First Day Back At School!

January 9, 2007

My holidays were really fun. But I got the one thing I mostly wanted. A lap top. I already put stickers on it. They are awesome. Keegan my nephew was really spoiled. (Ha-ha) Yeah he got lots and he just turned 2! Well my birthday is in 16 days till my birthday. I can’t wait. But I don’t get that much. I don’t even know what I’m doing for my birthday. Strange.

Yesterday was the first day of school back and we had soccer start. YAY! I can’t wait till we actually have practice. They are on Wednesdays and Fridays at lunch. Well there is still like an hour to practice. Two years ago we won first place. I hope we do again. We first need to find some more people.

Then today we got a 1000 word essay to do on the Renaissance on a famous person then we have to make a project on something like art, engineering, exploration and ext. I don’t know what I’m doing yet but I will after I’m done this post. Well I guess I am done this post now. Now I have to do the Renaissance project. Bye!

Life after school! What is it like?

December 20, 2006

In school we had to pick a topic between school/jobs, values, health, religion and future. We each had to split between them and I picked school/jobs. There is one other person that picked it too and we had to get together and make a title and catch fraise. Our title is “Life after High school. What is it like?”  But before we made that, we had to pick something like college or types of jobs or something like that. I picked university and he picked college. Then we had to make a web about it tell what we want to learn about. After that we had to write notes on what we all know about it. We seem to know lots. Some of the things are like; how do you pick a good school? How do you pick what you want to do? Then we also had to web off anything about it like are you going to have courses or classes, like in junior school. Or who we are going to meet or where were going to live and how we get a loan and if we even need one. After that we had to write about what we would to, to find this stuff out. Like go to a professor at a university, talk to someone that went to school or is going to school, look in books or search the net. When we get back from Christmas break, we will be studying our topics and we will doing some of the things like asking people the questions, looking on the net or in books to find the things we want to learn about on these topics.

So I am going to find out a little bit about what it is like after high school. So when we learn about it I will be writing another post about what I learnt.

Thats all for now. Bye!
